Gasly takes Monza pole: Alpine can't yet call it a revival

At Monza, when Pierre Gasly’s Alpine stopped on the pit lane after Q3, the crowd held its breath. Only when the giant screen showed 1:19.392 – faster than every rival – did the euphoria explode. As Nielsen put it, 'If you give him the machine, he’ll deliver.' Yet this pole might be misleading. Monza is an outlier, and the low-drag package could hide weaknesses in medium- and low-speed corners. Races in Baku, Singapore or Mexico will reveal the upgrade’s true scope. Alpine has a real chance to secure crucial points for fifth place, but one strong qualifying session should not be mistaken for a sustained revival. Franco Colapinto’s eighth place in his Alpine debut is another positive signal, confirming the upgrade works on both cars. Still, this is just qualifying; a rookie facing the full pressure of a grand prix is an unknown. The key question for Sunday is whether Alpine can convert pole into a result. If Gasly leads after the first corner and the team avoids strategic errors, a win – their first in years – is possible. But I will wait for Baku before declaring that Alpine has truly found its rhythm again. Data is patient; it waits to be read carefully before I trust emotions.
